FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March, 2002

Ottawa: Once again the Liberal government swept in new money for thenational gun registry although many MPs had previously stated they are concerned about the $1 billion in this program.

MP Betty Hinton (Kamloops Thompson and Highland Valleys), who voted against the additional $59 million as part of the supplementary budget approval, said in the House of Commons today that the firearms registration program is unworkable.

Mrs. Hinton asked the Justice Minister if he will finally scrap the ill-conceived gun registration scheme and re-direct the money to fighting crime but was unable to get a direct answer from Hon. Martin Cauchon.
